Rockland Community Overview

Located on a rocky escarpment and home to a rich array of heritage houses, a castle and Government House, Rockland has a grand, elegant character.

It is located east of downtown and inland from the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Originally developed in the early 1880's, Rockland consisted of mansions and estates surrounded by stone walls and fences. During this time, the architect Samuel MacLure designed numerous Arts and Crafts style homes, many of which still grace the neighbourhood. Today, Rockland remains largely residential with some commercial along the northern boundary. The neighbourhood has evolved as many mansions have been converted to suites and it now includes a mix of apartments, townhouses, single-family homes and care facilities. Despite this change, the neighbourhood has retained its elegance and neighbourhood character.
